In 2024, 560 LCA assessments were completed using its cutting-edge FastLCA tool, bringing the total to date to nearly 1,000 LCAs for its commercial solutions. This tool also quantifies avoided and removed GHG emissions, which are emissions that can be either avoided or saved through equipment upgrades, equipment servicing, improved efficiency or removed through technologies, essential for furthering lower carbon energy expansion. </li>

While AI hasn’t booted human bartenders out of their jobs en masse, for the past several years, <a href="https://www.adweek.com/creativity/bacardi-inks-its-biggest-celeb-deal-with-camila-cabello-as-the-global-face-of-the-brand/" target="_blank">Bacardi</a>—whose portfolio includes Grey Goose vodka and tequila brand Patrón—has been investing its money to help ensure that it doesn’t.

Bacardi is expanding a global training initiative called <a href="https://www.bacardilimited.com/corporate-responsibility/shakeyourfuture/sa/" target="_blank">Shake Your Future</a>. The program (free of charge for those selected), bestows its graduates with an international bartender certification and has pledged to mint 10,000 mixologists by 2030. In February, it added Glasgow to a long list of European cities where it already operates.

“The techniques of being a great bartender [include] the broader skills around hospitality itself,” said Alex Tomlin, SVP and head of marketing for Bacardi North America, “which is essentially about customer interaction.”

Just as artificial intelligence has crept into professions like finance, retail, and content creation, it’s been heading for the corner pub, too. In 2019, for example, U.K. startup DataSparq debuted its AI Bar, which uses facial-recognition technology to serve patrons in the order they walked in the door. Last year, Diageo introduced a digital platform called What’s Your Cocktail?, which uses the company’s FlavorPrint AI technology to generate personalized libations. In the back room, meanwhile, AI management app Backbar can crunch customer data to predict demand, control inventory, and order booze.

Like many in the business, Tomlin has watched the growth of AI. He appreciates its power to help cut waste, boost margins, and even concoct some novel drink recipes.

“But none of that changes the importance of why people go to bars,” he told ADWEEK, “which is all about human interaction.”

In 2022, the liquor giant created Future Proof, a specialized curriculum for students at Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality &amp; Tourism. The training goes beyond how to pour drinks and into mixology’s finer points including cocktail history and spirits distillation.

Extreme weather events, such as the devastating fires in Los Angeles in January 2025, are becoming an increasingly frequent part of daily life, as explored in Nielsen’s recent <a href="https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2024/understanding-local-media-reach-during-extreme-weather-events/" target="_blank">climate change report</a>. These events not only disrupt communities, but also highlight the critical role of trusted local media. Los Angeles’ local television stations, their digital platforms, and local radio stations kept locals informed on Jan. 8, 2025, when fires spread quickly through several neighborhoods across the city—demonstrating the importance of multiplatform audience strategies to meet urgent information needs.

The power of local media in a crisis

During the LA fires, local news became a lifeline for millions. On Jan. 8, Los Angeles viewers recorded over 1.1 billion minutes of local TV news alone, while impressions of that same news content on digital platforms alone surged by an astounding 1,693% over the average of the three weekdays prior. Similarly, local radio, with its ability to deliver hyper-local and timely updates, logged more than 97 million gross minutes, a 40% increase over the average of the seven days prior. These platforms proved indispensable as more than 200,000 people were evacuated from their homes, seeking real time, accurate information to navigate the crisis.

  Multiplatform strategies: A convergence of linear and digital

While each platform saw engagement grow on its own, the way Angelenos’ accessed news during the fires shows us the growing trend for multiplatform strategies to reach today’s audience. <a href="https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2025/cross-media-audience-insights-upfronts-newfronts-planning/" target="_blank">Nielsen’s 2025 Upfront New Front</a> guide outlines the concept of convergence TV—where streaming complements the strength of linear TV—and its impact was on full display in LA’s local media engagement. For audiences, linear TV provided immediacy and authority, while digital platforms offered flexibility and on-demand accessibility. This ensured that audiences could stay informed at home and on the move. Adults 25–54, a critical demo for advertisers, showed the highest growth in digital viewing during the fires with consumption skyrocketing by 2,143%.

Trust in local media

When the stakes are high, trust becomes paramount. Social media provided timely updates, but also saw instances of misinformation creating confusion. Faced with this challenge, audiences turned to local media for fact-checked, reliable updates. According to Nielsen’s 2024 Truth and Trust survey, 57% of viewers ranked local news among their top three most trusted outlets, with trust levels even higher among Black (65%) and Hispanic (52%) audiences. This trust underscores why local media remains a cornerstone of community connection and communication. The news viewing during the LA fires also highlights the power of culturally relevant and language-specific programming. For Hispanic audiences, local TV and radio played a pivotal role, with Spanish-language programming meeting the needs of LA’s community. Providing culturally relevant content in language ensures that no audience is left behind during critical moments.

Media engagement during the LA fires reminded us that <a href="https://www.nielsen.com/solutions/audience-measurement/local-tv/" target="_blank">local television</a> and <a href="https://www.nielsen.com/solutions/audience-measurement/audio/" target="_blank">local radio</a> don’t just inform, they build community, combat misinformation and drive unmatched engagement.

Los Angeles television audience data for this analysis was determined using Nielsen Local TV View (NLTV) data for local news programs tuning in minutes for the period Jan. 2-11, 2025, Live+SD, P2+, M-Su 3a-3a, includes KABC, KCAL, KCBS, KCOP, KMEX, KNBC, KRCA, KTLA, KTLA OT, KTTV, KVEA, KWHY, S1LA. NLTV is an online tool that allows users to analyze viewing within and across all measured <a href="https://www.nielsen.com/dma-regions/" target="_blank">Nielsen Designated Market Areas (DMAs)</a>. The LA Fires: How Multiplatform Local Media Became a Lifeline

A female orphaned cougar cub from Montana arrived safely at the zoo on Tuesday, February 11, marking a significant milestone ahead of the habitat's mid-March opening.

The transport of the cub was a collaborative effort involving the Birmingham Zoo, FedEx, and Montana Fish, Wildlife &amp; Parks. The young cougar, named Juniper, estimated to be four to five months old and weighing between 30 and 40 pounds, traveled by plane from Great Falls, Montana, to Memphis, Tennessee. From there, she was transported by the Birmingham Zoo to her new home.

This effort aimed to provide companionship and enrichment for the young cougar.

Shortly after Juniper’s arrival, the zoo also welcomed two new bobcats, Baxter and Boomer, transported by FedEx from the San Diego Humane Society. These seven-year-old bobcats arrived on March 7 and quickly adjusted to their new home. Baxter and Boomer's arrival further enriched the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing habitat, showcasing the zoo's commitment to providing a safe and enriching environment for all its animals.

The hope is for them to become best friends like Baxter and Boomer.

As the Birmingham Zoo celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2025, the opening of the Wojciechowski Cougar Crossing on March 19 marked a significant milestone in its history. The new habitat stands as a symbol of hope, community effort, and the zoo's dedication to animal care and conservation. Zoo visitors will learn about the important conservation efforts behind these beautiful animals.

WK Kellogg Co Volunteers Dig In To Give Back During National Volunteer Month

The young woman then operated a device exclusively with her eyes, bringing a hyper-realistic avatar to large screens to address the room.

“Technology holds tremendous promise for persons with disabilities—a promise realized when we codesign and control these technologies from the start,” Taylor said through her avatar. She called for an AI-empowered future, built in concert with the people who need solutions most.

Taylor was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2023, a neurodegenerative disease typically leading to full-body paralysis—it has no cure. She joined Parliament as a guest of the <a href="https://www.scottmorganfoundation.org/" target="_blank">Scott-Morgan Foundation (SMF)</a>, a leading non-profit rewriting the future for people living with disabilities, and a consortium of collaborators leveraging AI.

The moment, which included her multilingual avatar cracking jokes in Viennese German, kicked off the <a href="https://zerocon25.zeroproject.org/" target="_blank">Zero Project Conference</a>, hosted in Vienna’s United Nations headquarters. As the largest accessibility-focused event in Europe, the conference saw roughly 1,500 attendees join panels and workshops, showcase groundbreaking innovations, and network with visionaries from around the world.

Teams from Lenovo, the global technology powerhouse, joined ZeroCon for the first time to meet with long-standing collaborators, share expertise, and explore the frontiers of assistive technology.

The theme was clear: Innovation for marginalized groups can enhance the experience of countless others.

“The scale of this opportunity is staggering – over 2.5 billion people currently need assistive technology, projected to exceed 3.5 billion by 2050,” Roberts said. “At the Scott-Morgan Foundation, we’re working to ensure these aren’t just statistics but a call to action. Each number represents a person whose talent, voice, and potential is waiting to be unleashed through thoughtful, inclusive technology.”

The same ethos informs the work of <a href="https://news.lenovo.com/lenovo-creates-product-diversity-policy-celebrates-5-years-accessible-innovations/" target="_blank">Lenovo’s Product Diversity Office (PDO)</a>, an oversight team that reviews products across the company for compliance, accessibility, and consideration of diverse global users.

“It’s often easy for innovation to happen in a silo: push the technology, serve a single demographic of end user, and deliver a dedicated solution,” Crosslin said. “But this limits what we can accomplish together. This is a space where the outcome can be much greater than the sum of its parts—precisely what we see with Erin’s avatar.”

Led by SMF, the avatar solution integrates powerful AI-driven technologies: a custom avatar from D-ID, <a href="https://www.scottmorganfoundation.org/elevenlabs" target="_blank">personalized voices from ElevenLabs</a>, and eye-gaze tracking from IRISBOND. Lenovo led the development of the interface and provided devices to share and test the tech with individuals with ALS around the world.
