Rutgers: 2nd student hospitalized with bacterial meningitis
A second student at Rutgers has been hospitalized with bacterial meningitis, according to university officials.
The student was hospitalized on Feb. 23. Those who had close contact with the student are being notified, school officials said.
A Rutgers student was previously hospitalized for the illness on Feb. 4. Health officials are trying to determine where the infections are coming from.
Symptoms of meningitis include: high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, confusion, nausea, vomiting, exhaustion or rash. Health officials are urging students to get meningitis vaccinations if they haven’t already. Any student who is feeling ill should visit the health center or contact their doctor.
Rutgers officials say that they haven’t had to cancel any events or activities because of the illness.
