Brooklyn Heights affordable housing development seen as game changer
A new affordable housing development in Brooklyn Heights is a game changer in the eyes of some people in Brooklyn.
City officials and developers held a grand opening Tuesday of the affordable housing development located at 15 Bridge Park Drive.
The facility was created by RAL Development Services and Oliver's Reality Group in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park. The 15-story building features 40 market rate units and 100 affordable units. It also has amenities like a gym, rooftop terrace and a playroom for kids.
"It's a type of place that is affordable to a lot of working families and to the types of families in the city who have really built these neighborhoods," says NYC HBD Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer. "They truly deserve a place to call home for the long term."
The housing development is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's plan to create 300,000 affordable homes by 2026.
