Two dozen displaced after 3-alarm fire erupts in Cypress Hills
A massive fire broke out Wednesday morning in Cypress Hills.
Fire officials say the flames erupted at a building on Fulton Street and Autumn Avenue.
The fire chief says it appears it all started around 4:30 a.m. in the back of the laundromat located at 3402 Fulton St., but quickly spread up into the apartments on both floors above.
News 12 is told two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
Around 6:30 a.m., nearly two hours after it started, the fire was ruled under control. Deputy Chief Stephen Moro says getting the fire out was no easy task.
"The way the building is constructed, and once the fire gets in the shaft, it travels from floor to floor and can even travel from building to building so that caused us a lot of difficulty,” says Moro.
The Red Cross is assisting the more than 25 people who are now displaced.
Gustavo Bahena, who lives in the apartment building, says he and his family were asleep when they were woken up by the fire.

"All of a sudden we just see a huge light come from the yard. We just try to get everybody out of the house as soon as we saw it,” says Bahena.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
