Queens men suspected in serial car break-ins appear in court
Two Queens men accused of stalking shoppers at high-end stores at the Americana in Manhasset and following them to their homes or other destinations to steal their pricey purchases appeared in court Thursday.
Police say the duo's crime spree began on Oct. 5, 2018, when they followed a shopper to the garage of a house on Todd Drive East in Glen Head and stole two Louis Vuitton handbags worth $3,690 from a BMW.
On Nov. 13, the pair is accused of breaking the window of a Chrysler on West Jericho Turnpike in Mineola to steal a MacBook Air laptop worth $1,700.
A few weeks later on Dec. 2, police say the suspects smashed a window on a Tesla on Woodland Way in Manhasset and stole another laptop valued at $867.
Police say the thieves struck again on Jan. 31, breaking the window of an Acura in a parking lot on Hillside Avenue in Garden City Park to steal a Louis Vuitton item worth $2,600.
Police arrested Andres Quintero-Mendoza and Jarry Gonzales-Ramos in connection with the thefts.
The suspects were arraigned Thursday on several charges, including burglary, grand larceny, criminal mischief and petit larceny.
