The LGBT Network cut the ribbon Friday on its new facility in Hauppauge, just before the start of Pride Month.
The 15,000-square-foot building is the brainchild of LGBT Network CEO David Kilmnick.
"This is a facility that is revolutionary on Long Island, that will be a game-changer for all of us. So, the door is really open to everyone," Kilmnick says.
The multimillion-dollar facility will offer health screenings and host advocacy meetings. There are several high-tech multipurpose rooms, including an auditorium that can seat almost 500 people, an art gallery and a small areas for informal events.
August Simon is an intern in the center's cafe, which is helping young people learn new skills in an accepting environment.
"There's a lot of pressure just to get out in the world, and this is just like an extra help, a step along the way," Simon says.
Those who came to the opening say they're excited for the center's future.
