The New Jersey Urban Mayors Association gathered in Newark this morning to voice concerns about threats that ICE will be performing raids to deport undocumented immigrants.
Officials speaking today called the Trump administration’s ICE raid-related threats an attack on undocumented families, tearing them apart and creating fear within communities across the country.
They also say President Donald Trump is doing the action as a political stunt as he approaches re-election.
"We know that the raids are not taking place today or yesterday because they're saying there is a two-week reprieve, but it does not mean that they will not happen,” says Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. “So we want to stand against anything that suggests that they're going to come here to city of Newark and arrest anybody."

Mayor Baraka went as far as saying the city's police department will not be cooperative with ICE officials.
The mayor says every resident of Newark is a resident, whether they are documented or undocumented.
Mayors from Roselle and Perth Amboy took part in the event, as well as various clergy and a representative from Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker's office.
President Donald Trump said in a tweet Saturday that he is postponing a nationwide immigration sweep to deport people living in the U.S. illegally. He said he would give lawmakers two weeks to work out a solution to border issues.
