Rockland County Executive Ed Day is continuing to take action against the measles, issuing his fourth state of emergency Monday before the previous one expires just before midnight.
The news comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it has now identified nearly 1,100 cases across 28 states – an increase of 33 cases from just last week. This marks the greatest number of measles cases reported in the U.S. since 1992.
Unlike the first declaration, which prohibited people not vaccinated against the measles from entering public places, this one offers no restrictions.
Officials say instead, it ensures the county will continue to receive staffing and assistance from the state Department of Health and the CDC.
The number of confirmed measles cases has grown to 275 since the outbreak began back in October.
Earlier this month, Rockland Commissioner of Health Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert issued a mandatory vaccination order for all children and staff attending summer camps.

Free MMR vaccines are available at the Rockland County Department of Health in Pomona.
