Gov. Phil Murphy says that protecting houses of worship is more critical than ever in the wake of several attacks on faith communities around the world.
The governor underscored that commitment Tuesday in a speech at the Hindu temple in Robbinsville. He addressed members of the state's Interfaith Advisory Council.
“In New Jersey, we understand that an attack on one faith is an attack on all faiths. We do not tolerate hate. We do not tolerate bigotry. We do not tolerate violence, and we will not be manipulated into division by fear,” Murphy said.
The governor said that since he took office, the council has grown to more than 3,000 members in 21 counties.
The state helps train faith leaders on how to write suspicious activity reports, gives active shooter training and lends help on how to apply for federal grants for security.
