Boy Scouts from across the country are heading to Times Square this weekend for the 5th Annual World Championship Pinewood Derby.

One Boy Scout from Carroll Gardens qualified for the competition, even building his own race car to compete with.

Ashton Lencsak, 7, is ready to compete in the World Championship Pinewood Derby, with a hot dog-inspired race car that he built.

"I like hot dogs because they look cool,” says Ashton.

Ashton is a part of Cub Scout Pack 815. He got the chance to build a race car for the local Brooklyn derby where he placed in the top three of the competition.

"It's a really hard car to make because you have to do all these things to make it. You need sandpaper, a big piece of wood, a saw, and some nails. Some wheels and paint,” says Ashton.

The 7-year old says his favorite part of building the car was working with his dad and his grandfather.Ashton will be one of 400 Cub Scouts from 30 states that will head to Times Square to compete on Saturday.

"I’m hoping that he just gets the chance to understand the opportunity. He's in Times Square. He's racing against the best cars in the area and hopefully he will come home with a trophy, but if he doesn't we are still unbelievably proud,” says Ashton’s father, Steven Lencsak.

His family says they'll be at the competition, cheering him on every step of the way.
