Some brazen bandits broke into a burned multifamily home in Mount Vernon twice.
The home on South Second Street is now vacant after it was badly damaged in a house fire last Saturday.

Dakarai Maynard, a Mount Vernon firefighter, was away on his bachelor party when his fellow firefighters battled flames at his home.

His second-story apartment was damaged by smoke and water, but the real damage done that night happened after the home was boarded up.

He says while he was still away, someone or a group of people entered through a kitchen window and stole money and jewelry.
There was then another break-in with more valuables taken.
His fellow firefighters launched a GoFundMe page to help Maynard get back on his feet.
