As the U.S. Women's Soccer team plays in the quarterfinal round of the FIFA World Cup, some local soccer players were competing for some glory of their own.

News 12 Connecticut's Sean McCabe visited the Packer Soccer Camp. Now in its 41st year, the two-week camp puts kids from ages 3 to 14 through the paces, developing their skills before being organized into teams and holding a mini tournament, which concluded today.

Coaches say they always hold their "World Cup" at the end of camp, but with the U.S. Women's Team taking the world by storm, there was some extra enthusiasm on the field this year.

"Maybe one day they can be the next Carli Lloyd or whoever else, they just really take to it and especially this year with the women's World Cup, it's especially great seeing the young ladies come into their own and have some positive role models as well," said Shawn Chase.

Unlike the FIFA World Cup, this one also included awards for craziest sunglasses and best decorated ball.
