Baraka made his way to bottled water distribution points throughout the day. A lot has been discussed concerning lead in Newark's water, from filters to two different water treatment facilities to a lawsuit in federal court. Gov. Phil Murphy has said federal assistance will be necessary.
Baraka say he understands the frustration his residents may be feeling.
"I understand people's feeling, I have that feeling in my own house," says Baraka. "My wife is there, we have a lead service line, we use a filter there, she's pregnant so, you know, that is in her mind like everybody's mind. So this is very, very personal for me, and we're out here every day trying to do what we can do get it resolved."
Baraka says bottled water will continue to be distributed until further notice. He also talked about possible progress that might develop this weekend and hinted on a possible announcement sometime next week.
