Jersey City is expecting thousands Saturday to take to the streets and celebrate LGBT pride.
The city's LGBT Pride Festival will be a day of music and community with a theme of "honoring the past and creating our future."
Jersey City marks pride throughout the month of August, with events including an exhibit at Art House Productions commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which ignited the modern gay right movement.
The festival was co-founded 19 years ago by artist Miguel Cardenas. Cardenas was honored at this year's pride flag raising.
The festival takes place over the length of Newark Avenue pedestrian plaza, where rainbows and hearts have been painted in honor of the event.
The festival kicks off at 1 p.m. As many as 20,000 people are expected.
It is free to attend, but proceeds raised benefit the Hudson Pride Center.
