Nassau police have arrested a man they say fired shots near the grounds of Roosevelt High School and Middle School Tuesday.
Authorities say a resident on Bauer Avenue got into a dispute with school landscapers over some trees that had fallen on his property.
They say he then fired three shots from a gun into the ground, and then went back inside his home.
Police say officers arrived on the scene shortly after 9 a.m., and a SWAT team descended on the suspect's house. Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says the man surrendered to authorities after seeing the large police presence outside of his home.
Another man, a woman and a 6-year-old child inside the home were taken into custody as well.
At the time, a full staff of teachers was inside the school preparing for the upcoming school year. There were also students there for football and track practices.
Those students and teachers were locked down inside the school until the suspect was placed into custody.
Police say the suspect will be arraigned Wednesday morning. Authorities have executed a search warrant to find the gun used.
