The Stratford Fire Department and Animal Control rescued a kitten from a storm drain Monday morning.
Firefighters say they were called to the Walgreens on Barnum Avenue around 10 a.m.
Authorities say they don't know how the 3- to 4-week-old kitten found its way into the drain, but when they arrived, it had retreated into an offshoot pipe.
Firefighters say it took two and a half hours to rescue the animal. They say they used a fire hose to get it out of the pipe and then used a net from Animal Control to catch it.
The kitten appeared to be in good health, according to officials, but it was taken to Snowflake Pet Center in Milford to get checked by a vet.
Angelique Fitzmorris, from Stratford Animal Control, says once the kitten is ready and eight weeks old, it will go up for adoption.
Animal Control says they named the kitten Becker, after the firefighter who pulled it out of the drain.
