Two American Venice bridges in Lindenhurst are now open for two-way traffic.
The bridges were originally built back in the 1920s and are modeled after the canals and roadways of Venice, Italy.
The complete replacement will make crossing easier without changing the aesthetic.
The $8.8 million project was paid for by the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery after Superstorm Sandy.
Town of Babylon says the reconstructed 35-foot wide structures will make it easier for construction trucks and first responders to pass. The town says the structures were originally 28.5 feet wide.
Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez told News 12 they hope to celebrate the bridges’ completion in fall.
The civic association says now it wants to restore the replicas of the Lions of Venice that welcome visitors into the area.
