A hospital in Brooklyn is giving cardiac patients some of the best treatment in the entire state.

Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center’s cardiac team has been recognized for its work.

Brookdale was recently rated as one of the top four hospitals in New York State for continued life after heart attack and elective cardiac catheterization.

“We have seen patients literally on our table start moving their limbs that were not working, maybe two hours before they got here,” says Dr. Hal Chadow.

Dr. Chadow is the director of the division of cardiology and director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Brookdale Hospital.

Dr. Chadow says it comes down to three things – technology, timing and teamwork.

“So really in order to treat a heart attack patient, the care begins in the field with the paramedics who bring the patient, who notify us from the field that a heart attack is coming we are then able to mobilize our team early; 24/7 bring that patient through the emergency room set them up on this table,” says Dr. Chadow.

Doctors say another reason why Brookdale has been rated one of the top four hospitals in New York is the care their patients receive following their heart attack, giving patients the tools they need so they don't end up in the hospital again.
