Despite forming a committee to solving parking issues at Long Island Rail Road stations in Oyster Bay, some committee members say nothing has been done.
More than a year ago, the Town of Oyster Bay formed a committee made up of town officials and residents. Their job was to try to come up with ways to alleviate the parking situation at train stations in the town. But at least one member of that committee says the committee has barely been meeting.
Committee member Lisa Reinhardt told Newsday the committee has visited only two stations over the past year.
Town Councilman Thomas Hand voted no at a meeting on a parking proposal that he said should have gone through the committee. When asked for an interview Monday, Hand instead issued a statement that blamed the train station parking problem on the MTA.
Town Supervisor Joe Saladino, who News 12 was told was unavailable for an interview, issued a statement saying it's up to the MTA to build new parking garages.
The town also says it has managed to add an additional 115 parking spaces at train stations on its own.
News 12 reached out to the MTA for comment and is waiting to hear back.
In response, the MTA said that while parking is a shared responsibility, the sites being talked about are not owned by the authority.
