An annual parade in Red Hook aimed to show the resilience of the community after the damage Superstorm Sandy left behind seven years ago.
The Barnacle Parade has become an annual staple in Red Hook. Every year, neighbors dress up in costume, put together impressive parade floats, and march through the neighborhood.
They community says it remembers the devastation left behind by the storm surge in 2012.
That day, and weeks after, organizers say the neighborhood came together to help each other out and clean up the mess. Now, it's become a fun tradition to share with families and kids, keeping the spirit of Red Hook alive while at the same time taking back the neighborhood year after year.
The parade is meant to show resilience. This year, organizers are donating proceeds to storm recovery initiatives in the Bahamas.
