A program is using miniature horses to brighten the lives of people in hospitals and rehab centers.
For the last two years, HorseAbility has brought miniature horses to the Medford Multicare Center to put a smile on residents' faces.
"It is amazing, this program, watching the horses interact with the residents, seeing the love that they give them and the companionship that they get is incredible," said Jamie Kolodziejski, the director of operations.
The mini horses go through a lot of training to be comfortable and to handle any kind of stimuli they may encounter in a hospital or rehabilitation center.
Aiden and Pearl are the mini therapy horses with the Old Westbury-based HorseAbility. They sometimes also travel from Long Island to Staten Island, visiting rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, hospitals and schools.
HorseAbility began in 1993 and is located on The College at SUNY Old Westbury campus.
