Police say grenades, some live, were found at a home in Rocky Point during a scheduled demolition Thursday.
Warren Haller and fellow demolition crew members say they found five hand grenades on the grounds of a house scheduled for demolition. He says the crew was looking for fuel lines when they stumbled upon an old duffle bag filled with grenades.
Suffolk's police emergency service officers responded to the abandoned home at King Road. The officers removed the grenades and tested them, and say three of the five grenades were live.
Neighbor Anthony Bivona says the former owner of the house was a loner in his 60s who left the property about two years ago. “From what little I know about him, I don't think he was out to blow anybody up. I think he's just a buff, a military buff,” he says.

By late afternoon, it was business as usual for the demolition crew. Haller says he was just relieved he and his coworkers can now laugh about a close call.
Police say the three live grenades will be detonated off site.
