A new study found that many Americans are spending just under $50 for their Thanksgiving meal.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the average American spends $48.91 on a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people. This is only a penny more than last year.
The survey included 12 items, and found that three of them - turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie mix - actually declined in price over the last year.
However, Giselle Lopez, of Food Bazaar, says she sees a lot of customers spending over the surveyed amount. "You will see people spend a minimum of $200," she says.
Lopez says customers looking to save should ask stores about specials. She says some grocery stores, including Food Bazaar, will give a free turkey if a certain amount is spent or if a certain amount of membership points is collected.
The survey also found that 90% of Americans celebrate the holiday with a special meal and 92% spend the day with family.
