Eli Manning likely to return as Giants quarterback after Daniel Jones injury
With Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones in a walking boot, the team has announced that Eli Manning is “very likely to start on Monday in Philadelphia.”
Coach Pat Shurmur says Jones has a moderate high ankle sprain.
Manning is a two-time Super Bowl MVP who started 222 consecutive games before being yanked in 2017 for Geno Smith. Ben McAdoo, the Giants coach at the time, was later fired on Dec. 4, 2017.
Giants beat writer Art Stapleton reported that the fan base was hoping “for a farewell of sorts for the 38-year-old Manning, perhaps in the Week 17 finale against the Eagles at MetLife Stadium.”
They will now turn to him to avoid the longest losing streak in team history.
